Volunteer Program


This is a good opportunity for warm and caring individuals interested in serving elders through companionship and friendship.

Volunteers

Apply to become a Volunteer
Many of our volunteers are elderly themselves. Some are involved in the City of Boston Volunteer Program that provides stipends to older volunteers who meet income guidelines. Volunteers who qualify for stipend must serve 18-20 hours per week. There is no minimum number of hours for those not receiving a stipend. Modest reimbursement are provided for lunch and public transportation.

Volunteers assist elder clients through Friendly Visiting, Medical Escort, Small Item Shopping, and Telephone Reassurance.

Allston, Brighton, Back Bay, Fenway, Mission Hill, North Dorchester, North Jamaica Plain, Roxbury, and South End.

Volunteers are available on a regular basis or as needed and are requested to make a six-month to one-year commitment when signing up for the program.

Training
Volunteer orientation and in-service training sessions are conducted on a regular basis. Fellowship exists both among the volunteers and between volunteers and clients they serve.

Honor
Each year in May, we honor our dedicated volunteers with an award ceremony and luncheon. Volunteers play an integral role in the care and comfort of our clients providing such services as friendly visiting, medical escort, shopping and telephone reassurance.
